Retention Certificate

If you’re planning to obtain foreign citizenship but want to keep your German passport, you must hold a so-called retention certificate. This certificate is valid for two years and must exist prior to the acquisition of foreign citizenship – otherwise you automatically lose your German nationality.

To successfully apply for a retention certificate, you must, among other things, demonstrate continuing ties to Germany and explain your reasons for acquiring foreign citizenship. These may include financial, inheritance-related and other personal circumstances.

Taking your personal life situation into consideration, we will gladly advise you how likely your application for retention is to succeed. Together we work out your motivations, thoroughly prepare your documents and justify your application in a credible manner. Subsequently, we support you throughout the entire official proceedings and handle all the correspondence until you receive your retention certificate. This way you can be sure to avoid mistakes which can only be undone with great difficulty.

We will gladly put together a concrete offer for you. Call or contact us via e-mail.
